Echocardiography

Echocardiography is heart ultrasound. It is the primary tool of Cardiologists for non-invasive assessment of the heart. A complete echocardiogram to assess heart structure and function takes approximately 20 minutes.

All of our echocardiograms are performed and interpreted by a Cardiologist on the day of consultation.

Echocardiography can be performed from fetal to adult life and does not involve radiation. The images allow assessment of the heart and blood vessel structure, muscle contraction and relaxation, heart chamber sizes and valve function. Long term surveillance of the heart with structural defects, muscle abnormalities or following surgical intervention can detect abnormal heart function long before symptoms develop.
