24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring

Blood pressure monitoring in older children and adolescents allows multiple automated measurements to obtain an accurate assessment of both the day and night time blood pressure. Single measurements in the clinic can either over or underestimate the true blood pressure load faced by the heart.

Blood pressure monitors are used to evaluate post surgical patients, particularly those with aortic arch surgery who are at higher risk of developing hypertension (high bood pressure) which places additional stress on their heart. The rise in overweight, obesity and diabetes mellitus in young people is accompanied by an increasing incidence of unrecognized hypertension and long term cardiovacular risk.
